Ye are they which justify
yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in
the sight of God(Luke 16:14-15)
“Professing themselves to be wise, they became
fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like
to corruptible man…. and worshipped and served the creature more than [“rather
than”, as the marginal note puts it] the Creator, who is blessed for ever”
(Rom. 1:22,23,25).
And the same thing is happening with Nelson Mandela. In a secular
humanist world, men hunger for a saviour. They long to fill the spiritual
void in their lives. But they have no desire to turn to Christ, for they
love their sin too much. So they set up a substitute saviour. And
for millions this substitute saviour is Nelson Mandela. The shrine has
been created, the pilgrims are flocking to it, and the world is being told that
Mandela will live on, indeed live forever, in the hearts of his adoring disciples
and through his “teachings” and philosophy and ideology.
